JOB DESCRIPTION – MINING ENGINEER

Position: Mining Engineer

Job Purpose

The Mining Engineer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and optimizing mining operations to ensure safe, efficient, and economical extraction of mineral resources. The position will support the company in achieving production targets while maintaining high standards of safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement mine plans, production schedules, and operational strategies in accordance with the company’s mining objectives.
2. Supervise daily mining activities, including drilling, blasting, excavation, loading, hauling, and material handling.
3. Monitor mining production and ensure that daily, weekly, and monthly production targets are achieved.
4. Conduct mine surveying, geological coordination, pit design, and ore extraction planning.
5. Coordinate the efficient utilization of mining equipment, machinery, labour, and other resources.
6. Inspect mining areas and identify potential safety hazards, ground instability, and operational risks.
7. Ensure mining activities comply with Zimbabwean mining regulations, environmental requirements, and company health and safety policies.
8. Prepare technical reports, production records, work schedules, and operational assessments for management.
9. Monitor ore quality and coordinate with processing personnel to ensure appropriate ore is delivered to the processing plant.
10. Assist in the development, construction, and improvement of mine infrastructure and mineral-processing-related facilities where required.
11. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce operating costs, minimize mineral losses, and increase overall mine efficiency.
12. Supervise and provide technical guidance to mining personnel and local employees.
13. Train and mentor local engineers, technicians, and junior mining staff in modern mining methods, safety procedures, and operational practices.
14. Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, geological, and mineral-processing teams to ensure smooth and continuous mining operations.
15. Participate in mine development projects, including the expansion and commissioning of new mining and processing facilities.
16. Maintain accurate technical documentation and ensure that mining plans and operational procedures are regularly updated.
17. Investigate production delays, equipment-related problems, and other operational challenges and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
18. Perform any other technical and operational duties reasonably assigned by company management.

Qualifications and Experience

* Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in Mining Engineering.
* Relevant professional mining experience, preferably in gold or mineral extraction operations.
* Experience in mine planning, production management, and supervision of mining operations.
* Knowledge of mining equipment, drilling and blasting, mine safety, and production control.
* Ability to read and interpret mining plans, technical drawings, and geological information.
* Strong leadership, technical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Reporting Structure

The Mining Engineer will report directly to the Mine Manager / Operations Manager and will work closely with the geological, engineering, processing, maintenance, and production teams.

The Mining Engineer will play a key technical role in ensuring that Zhao Yang Mining conducts its mining operations safely, efficiently, and profitably while supporting sustainable production and the development of local technical personnel.
