JOB DESCRIPTION – MINING ENGINEER

Position Overview

LAN YUN MINING is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Mining Engineer to support and supervise its mining operations. The Mining Engineer will be responsible for mine planning, production coordination, technical supervision, safety compliance, and the efficient utilisation of mining equipment and resources.

Key Responsibilities

1. Prepare and implement mine plans, production schedules and operational programmes in accordance with approved mining plans.
2. Supervise day-to-day mining activities, including drilling, excavation, loading, hauling and ore extraction.
3. Monitor production activities and ensure that planned production targets are achieved efficiently.
4. Conduct mine surveys, assess geological and mining conditions, and provide technical recommendations for safe and efficient extraction of minerals.
5. Coordinate the use and maintenance of mining machinery and equipment to minimise downtime and improve operational efficiency.
6. Monitor ore extraction, stockpiling and transportation activities and ensure proper handling of mined material.
7. Assist with the design and optimisation of mining methods, pit layouts, access roads, haul roads and working areas.
8. Ensure that mining activities comply with Zimbabwean mining, environmental, occupational health and safety requirements.
9. Identify operational risks and implement appropriate measures to improve mine safety and productivity.
10. Prepare technical reports, production records, work schedules and other mining-related documentation for management.
11. Work closely with mine supervisors, geologists, surveyors, equipment operators and other technical personnel.
12. Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to local employees and junior mining personnel to facilitate skills transfer and development.
13. Monitor the efficient use of labour, fuel, machinery and other mining resources.
14. Investigate operational problems and recommend practical engineering solutions to improve production and reduce operating costs.
15. Assist management with mine development projects, expansion programmes and the implementation of improved mining technologies and methods.

Required Qualifications and Experience

* Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering or a related mining discipline.
* Relevant practical experience in mining operations.
* Knowledge of mine planning and production management.
* Knowledge of mining equipment and operational procedures.
* Understanding of occupational health, safety and environmental requirements.
* Ability to supervise mining personnel and coordinate technical operations.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a mining environment and under operational conditions.

Skills Transfer

The Mining Engineer will also be expected to work alongside local employees and technical staff, providing practical training and transferring knowledge in mine planning, production management, equipment utilisation, safety procedures and efficient mining methods.
