About The Friendship Bench
The Friendship Bench is a non-profit organization delivering an evidence-based, scalable, and sustainable community-based intervention to enhance mental well-being and improve quality of life in low-resource settings. Founded by clinical psychiatrist Dr. Dixon Chibanda, the program is designed to address the fact that more than 450 million people around the world suffer from mental illness, yet the gap between patients with mental health needs and the availability of treatment is estimated to be as high as 90% in some countries. Friendship Bench’s model trains lay health workers in primary care settings to deliver an evidence-backed form of cognitive behavioral therapy to improve mental health and ensure a sense of belonging in communities.
This role offers incredible opportunities to work with the world’s leading experts in access to community-based mental health services. The incumbent will form part of the team, as FB pursues aggressive scaling and expansion and will play critical role in managing and developing internal systems, processes and procedures in his/her respective area. This is a tremendous opportunity for a top drawer candidate to join an incredible team, and to maximize and strengthen the organizational capacity of a rapidly growing NGO with outsized impact potential.
The Program Manager is responsible for all the Friendship Bench Programs in the country. Working closely with the coordinators in various parts of the country, the incumbent ensures the programs have the desired impact in the local communities.
