Senior Scientist: Food and Water Testing Laboratory

Job Description
The Biotech Institute is seeking an innovative and highly communicative leader to oversee and enhance our state-of-the-art food and water testing laboratory, which is fully operational and accredited to international standards. The successful candidate will build on our existing robust framework, ensuring continuous excellence in testing, analysis, and technology integration. This role is ideal for a professional with deep expertise in laboratory operations and a passion for driving innovation in a dynamic, fully established environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Excellence & Accreditation:
-Oversee the ongoing management and enhancement of our fully operational food and water testing laboratory.
Ensure continuous compliance with international standards and regulatory requirements while maintaining and expanding our accreditation.
**Testing Oversight:
- Supervise a comprehensive range of testing protocols, including: microbial analyses e.g. yeast & moulds, campylobacter, etc; chemical analyses e.g. allergen profiling, pesticide residues analyses & mycotoxin analyses; physical testing; and shelf-life stability testing.

**Innovation & Technology Integration: Identify opportunities to implement advanced technologies and innovative testing methods to further improve laboratory efficiency and accuracy.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and technological adoption across the laboratory team.

**Team Leadership & Communication:
-Lead, mentor, and develop a team of skilled professionals, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
-Serve as a key liaison between the laboratory, internal stakeholders, and external partners to ensure transparent and effective communication.

**Quality Assurance & Reporting:
-Enhance and maintain quality control measures to guarantee that all tests and analyses meet the highest scientific and industry standards.
-Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management and regulatory bodies.


Qualifications and Experience
Advanced degree in microbiology, chemistry, food science, or a related field.
Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a laboratory setting, with a proven track record in food and water testing.
Demonstrated experience managing laboratory operations and maintaining international accreditation standards.
Strong record of innovation and technology integration in a scientific or testing environment.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
