Chemical Analyst Wanted

A "mine chemical analyst" is responsible for conducting chemical analyses on samples taken from a mine site, including ore, water, and other materials, to determine their chemical composition, ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and provide data critical for mine operations, such as ore grade, contaminant levels, and process optimization.

Key responsibilities of a mine chemical analyst:
-Sample collection and preparation:
-Collect representative samples from various mine locations (ore bodies, waste rock, process streams) and prepare them for analysis using appropriate techniques like crushing, grinding, and digestion.
-Qualitative and quantitative analysis:
-Perform chemical analyses using various analytical methods like X-ray fluorescence (XRF), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), wet chemistry, and chromatography to determine the concentrations of elements and compounds in samples.
-Method development and validation:
-Develop and validate new analytical methods specific to mine site needs, ensuring accuracy, precision, and reliability of results.
-Data analysis and interpretation:
-Analyze raw data, calculate results, interpret findings, and generate detailed reports on the chemical composition of samples, including trends and potential issues.

Quality control:
-Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy of analytical results, including regular calibration checks and participation in proficiency testing programs.

Regulatory compliance:
-Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant environmental and safety regulations related to mining operations and chemical analysis.

Process optimization support:
-Provide chemical analysis data to support mine operations, such as process optimization, ore grade control, and environmental monitoring.

Laboratory maintenance:
-Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety standards.

Collaboration:
-Work closely with other departments within the mine, including geologists, engineers, and environmental personnel, to address operational challenges and inform decision-making.

Required skills and qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field
-Strong understanding of analytical techniques used in the mining industry
-Proficiency in laboratory safety procedures and handling hazardous materials
-Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
-Ability to interpret complex chemical data and generate clear reports
-Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot analytical issues
-Familiarity with mining operations and relevant regulatory requirements
